Old Peculier is Crowned ‘Champion Beer of Yorkshire’
The legendary status of Theakstons Old Peculier has once again been re-enforced after scooping the coveted title of Champion Beer of Yorkshire, at the Rotherham Oakwood 2007 Real Ale Festival. The CAMRA backed Oakwood Real Ale & Music Festival is an annual charitable fund-raising event in support of Rotherham children and is one of the region’s biggest events, attracting over 10,000 visitors.
Over 180 Yorkshire beers from the county’s 69 brewers were entered for the Oakwood 2007 Yorkshire Championship Festival. All entrants for the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) award were subject to the rules established by CAMRA for its Champion Beer of Britain Award, leaving only 130 eligible to enter. Only beers that are brewed in Yorkshire, available nationally and regularly qualified to participate.

The ‘Beer of Britain’ Awards run by Cask Marque and the Daily Telegraph canvasses the opinions of the nations beer drinkers to find the ultimate cask ales. Drinkers across the country are being asked to vote for their favourite brew at local Cask Marque accredited pubs.

Yorkshire’s first ever beer election is about to take place – and thankfully there’s not a politician in sight!
Cask Marque, the organisation which accredits pubs serving the perfect pint, has teamed up with the Daily Telegraph to launch the Best of British Beer Awards. Across Yorkshire drinkers will be able to vote for their favourite cask ale at a ‘polling station’ – their Cask Marque accredited local.
Cask ale lovers at the Theakstons Visitor Centre, Black Bull in Paradise and the White Bear in Masham can vote for their favourite tipple using the beer mats provided and place them in a special ballot box on the bar.

Independent Yorkshire Brewer T&R Theakston has appointed industry veteran Freddie Price as Sales Development Manager for the South West of England.
Barely a month after starting, 65-year old Freddie has already secured his first account for Theakstons Best Bitter at The Rummer, one of Bath’s oldest pubs which now offers customers this fine, golden ale at the bar.

Theakstons Signs 5 Year Sponsorship Of Europe's Largest Crime Writing Festival
Theakstons, the famous Yorkshire brewer, has today announced a major, five year sponsorship of Europe’s largest Crime Writing Festival. The 2007 Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, part of the Harrogate International Festival, will also see the third Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year.
The sponsorship ensures that the Festival will continue to bring the best crime writers to Yorkshire, in what is now recognised internationally as one of the most prestigious events associated with the crime writing genre.

Called ‘The Hay-on Wye of the crime world’ by The Times and now in its fifth year, The Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival is now the largest event of its kind in Europe. T&R Theakston launches Paradise Ale in a bottle in an exclusive deal with Waitrose
Independent Brewer T & R Theakston is celebrating the start of the summer after confirming an exclusive deal with Waitrose supermarket. This will enable Ale enthusiasts across the country to enjoy Theakstons Paradise Ale in the comfort of their own home or garden, following the launch of its seasonal summer fruity flavoured beer in bottles.
Paradise is the first seasonal ale to be bottled by Theakstons in over 10 years. Previously the Ale has only been available in cask format for a limited period during the summer, but from 14th May it is available from 150 Waitrose stores across the UK for an exclusive six months, in 500ml bottles at a cost of £1.75.

The longlist was announced today for one of the most prestigious awards in the international crime writing calendar - the 3rd Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award, the only literary prize of its kind to be voted for by the general public.
Won by Mark Billingham in 2005 and Val McDermid in 2006, the award longlist once again features an eclectic mix of big names such as PD James and Ruth Rendell as well as aspiring new writers, spanning crime novels across the genre, from historical and police procedural to psychological.

Harrogate Crime Writer's Festival Whodunit Competition Winner Announced
Congratulations to Pam Hearne who successfully solved the crime and was selected by Natasha Cooper from a number of entries.
Natasha was so impressed with the creativity of some of the entries that she has selected 3 for special runners up prizes who will each receive a signed copy of her latest novel, Gagged and Bound. They are Kate Mitchell, E Stockton and Nora O’Hara

FAVOURITE BREWERY TAP DEVELOPS HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTRE
One of Yorkshire’s favourite pubs which has been serving real ale for generations is to undergo a major refurbishment to enhance and extend the flagship property of one of the UK’s oldest family owned brewers.
Theakstons has today confirmed that it’s much loved brewery tap, The White Bear in Masham, is to receive a £1.5 million makeover transforming the adjacent property and former brewery offices into a hotel and conference centre, whilst retaining its traditional character and warm welcome.
