Brewery Tour Health & Safety Information
Your personal tour guide will take you around our 4-storey Victorian Tower Brewery where you will experience the sights, sounds and smells of brewing here at Theakston Brewery. The guided tour takes approximately 45 mins and obviously ends in the Theakston Paradise Bar where you can sample our legendary ale! So, we do recommend at least 1 ½ hours for the full Theakston experience. The Brewery tour will commence on time, we recommend that you arrive 15 minutes in advance. We are sorry but we are unable to wait if you are late.
We have limited the number of people on each tour to a maximum of 16 people.
We recommend flat shoes, boots or trainer style footwear. Flip-flop style, open toes or stilettos are NOT permitted in the brewery. Regrettably, the Brewery Tour itself is not suitable for people with walking difficulties or children under the age of 12 (this includes babes in arms) as there are narrow walkways and steep stairs to negotiate; the Paradise Bar and Brewery Shop, however, are easily accessible for all.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
We are understandably proud that our historic brewery is still a busy, operational environment and we think that makes it all the more interesting for you to have a closer look. As our guests we want you to be able to see us in action but that does mean there are a few instructions that, for your own safety, must be adhered to. Please read on and, if you are unsure of any of the conditions below, do not hesitate to ask for clarification.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate people with mobility problems or walking sticks on our tours as our historic Brew house has narrow walkways and steep steps. If you are unsure, please discuss this with our Visitor Centre staff in advance and they will be more than happy to advise you.
It is also not a safe environment for babies or children under 12. Young adults over 12 are permitted but they must be accompanied by an adult, and while we cannot allow them to taste the beer, soft drinks are available.
Whilst we want you to get close to the action, we must insist that you do not touch, interfere or remove anything unless you have been given express permission to do so by your guide. This is because some pieces of machinery may move unexpectedly, some surfaces may be hot, or you might inadvertently interfere with the brewing process itself and damage a precious batch of our legendary beer (and nobody wants that to happen!).
It is very important that the tour group remain together with the guide at all times. It is easy to get lost on our site and some areas are particularly hazardous that do not form part of the tour. If you feel unwell or that you are unable to complete the tour, just tell the guide immediately and they will arrange for your safe return to the Visitor Centre.
The brew house is classed as a food production environment and you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire in advance of the Brewery tour. In accordance with the law ours is a non-smoking site, this includes e-cigarettes. Smoking is only permitted on the patio outside the Visitor Centre. Additionally, for obvious reasons, we cannot allow people to participate on the tour if they are under the influence of drugs, including alcohol.
The tour will keep you on your feet for at least 45 minutes and there are a number of open steps to climb so we insist that our guests wear appropriate footwear. Flat, sensible fully enclosed shoes must be worn (no open toes or sandals) and we may not allow you to go on certain parts of the tour if your footwear is not suitable.
We reserve the right to refuse admittance or curtail tours in the interest of your safety, the safety our own employees or the integrity of our product.
