Brewery Tours

If you are looking for a fascinating day out, why not visit Theakston Brewery in Masham and see the operation of one of the oldest working breweries in the country, considered an icon in British brewing and famed as the home of one of the world's most famous beers, our Theakston Old Peculier.

Join one of our guided tours and experience first-hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our legendary beers; the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family. Our guides will entertain and inform you as you learn how much time and care goes into brewing our legendary beers.

Online bookings can only be made for tours a minimum of 48 hours in advance of the date of visit. For same-day or next day bookings please telephone our Visitor Centre on 01765 684333 to check availability.

Our online booking system enables you to reserve a place on our guided tours up to one month in advance. If you're interested in booking
for a date beyond that timeframe, please don't hesitate to contact us via telephone om 01765 684333. A member of our Visitor Centre team will be more than happy to take your booking and assist you with any further information you may require.

What To Expect

The Theakston Brewery tour experience includes an approx. 45-minute guided tour of our famous 'new' Brewery which has been in full operation since 1875. Led by one of our fully-trained guides, you will learn first-hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our famous beers; the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family. The tour ends in the Theakston Paradise Bar, where you can sample a selection of our legendary beers! We recommend around an hour and a half is needed in total for the tour and sampling.

Brewery tour times - Monday - Saturday 11.00am and 2.00pm 
Arrival - 15 minutes before the start time of your tour
Length - Approx. 1.5 hours to enjoy tour and beer tasting

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Sensible footwear is required. We recommend flat shoes, boots or trainer style footwear. Flip-flop style, open toes or stilettos are NOT permitted in the brewery.
  • The Brewery tour will commence on time, we recommend that you arrive 15 minutes in advance. We are sorry but we are unable to wait if you are late.
  • The brewery tour route includes several flights of stairs and there are no places to sit down. Those with walking difficulties or mobility issues may find the tour challenging.
  • For family bookings (2 adults & 2 children aged 12-17) or bookings of 8 people or more please call us on 01765 684333.
  • It is not a safe environment for babies or children under 12. Young adults over 12 are permitted but they must be accompanied by an adult and we cannot allow them to taste the beer. Soft drinks are available.
  • You will be required to complete a short health questionnaire before entering the Brewery.
  • All tours are subject to availability.

PLEASE NOTE: No refunds will be provided in case of cancellations with less than 48 hours notice or no-shows.
